The name
Named after Apollo, god of light and beauty.
The figure behind the name
Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis. The god of music, poetry, prophecy and healing, he had at Delphi one of the most famous oracles of the ancient world. In later centuries he came to be linked with light and the sun. “Photography” means “writing with light”, and Apollo keeps your photos.
