Apollo — Terms of Use

By using Apollo, you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

1. What the app is

Apollo is a viewer and organizer for photos and videos you already keep in your own cloud (pCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, WebDAV, or any S3-compatible service) or in your device's Photos library. By reading your files' metadata, it shows a timeline, albums by year, a location map, and search. It isn't a storage service, and it doesn't replace your backups.

The app modifies your files. When you correct a date or location and choose to write it to the files, crop a photo or apply filters, trim or merge videos, or transfer photos from one of your cloud accounts to another, the file at the destination is replaced or created. Deleting something in the app first moves it to the Trash (Settings → Trash), where you can restore it. Files are permanently deleted from the cloud either automatically, after the retention period you set there (or never, if you chose "Never"), or manually from the Trash screen. At that point, deletion is permanent and can't be undone. Back up your files before making bulk changes.

2. The cloud accounts are yours

You connect your own accounts, and you're responsible for them, their content, and your rights to that content. Your use of each service is also governed by its own terms: pCloud, Apple iCloud, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, Box, or the terms of your own WebDAV/S3-compatible provider. We don't guarantee the availability, speed, or continued operation of those services. If a provider changes or discontinues its API, the related feature may stop working without notice.

3. Dates and locations

The app tries to find the real capture date from each file's EXIF data, file name, and year folder. When those are missing or wrong, the date shown is an estimate. The same applies to the "Estimate Location" feature, which borrows coordinates from photos taken around the same time. Estimates are marked separately in the app, and you can confirm or undo them. Don't rely on them as evidence.

The same goes for smart analysis: what a photo shows, which one is “best”, and which photos are identical or similar are automatic estimates made by Apple’s tools and can be wrong. Duplicate photos are never deleted without your confirmation, and they go to the app’s trash first, where you can restore them. Check your selection before you confirm.

4. Family mode

If you turn it on, the app writes settings files to the shared folder of the cloud account you choose as the family hub. These files include your photos' capture dates and GPS coordinates, the member names and trips you've set up, and your boarding passes, including booking codes and barcodes. Anyone with access to that folder can read them. It's your responsibility to turn this feature on only for folders you share with people you trust. See also the Privacy Policy, section 8.

5. Data usage and battery life

EXIF reading, smart analysis and syncing download data from your cloud. The app tries to download only the beginning of each file, but some files have to be downloaded in full. The "Wi-Fi Only" switch is on by default. You're responsible for managing your data usage and connection costs. We aren't liable for cellular data charges or for exceeding your provider's storage quota.

6. Your data is your responsibility

The local index is just a working copy. We don't keep backups, and we can't recover anything that's lost or deleted. Make sure you have working backups of your photos that don't depend on this app.

The app's code, design, graphics, and text belong to Christos Dimakis. Your photos and videos remain exclusively yours. We acquire no rights to them. The cloud providers' trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only.

9. No warranty

The app is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that it will run uninterrupted or error-free, that it will correctly read every file format, or that it will remain compatible with every future version of iOS or macOS.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for the loss or corruption of photos, videos, or metadata resulting from use of the editing, metadata-writing, or deletion features, from an error or outage at a cloud provider, or from a network interruption during upload.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer protection law or excludes liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by Greek law. As a consumer, you keep the right to bring legal proceedings in the courts where you live.

12. App Store

The app is distributed through the App Store and is also subject to Apple's Terms. Apple is not responsible for the app and has no obligation to provide support for it.
