Privacy Policy

App: Apollo · Last updated: 29 July 2026

In short: Apollo has no accounts, no servers, no usage analytics and no ads. Your photos stay where they already are, in your own cloud account. The app keeps only a local index on your device. We have no access to your photos or your accounts.

1. Who is responsible

Data controller: Christos Dimakis, Peristeri, Attica, Greece.
Contact: apollo@dimakis.app

2. We collect nothing

The app has no server. You do not create an account with us, you do not give us an email address, and there is no analytics, crash reporting or advertising SDK embedded. We do not track you across apps or websites and we do not use the IDFA. No photo, no video and no credential ever passes through a system of ours, because we do not have one.

3. What Apollo is

Apollo is a viewer for photos you already keep in your own cloud: pCloud, or your Photos library (iCloud Photos). The app connects directly from your device to the service you chose. No intermediate server is involved.

4. Data that stays on your device

The following is stored locally:

CategoryWhat it isWhy
Local indexFile name, cloud path, size, dimensions, duration, capture date, GPS coordinates, camera modelSo the timeline, albums and map can be shown without querying the cloud on every scroll
ThumbnailsSmall versions of your photos, up to 500 MBDisplay speed. Cleared automatically and manually from Settings
Temporary filesFiles downloaded for viewing, editing or sharingDeleted automatically
CredentialsThe access tokens for your cloud accountsStored in Apple's Keychain, not in a plain file
SettingsTheme, icon, zoom level, album covers, place namesApp functionality
We do not store the photos themselves. The index holds metadata and links, not the files. Your photos stay in your cloud. Deleting the app removes the index, not your photos.

5. Permissions the app requests

The app does not request location permission. The locations you see on the map come from your own files (EXIF GPS), not from where you are. Every permission can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.

6. What leaves the device, and where it goes

ServiceWhat is sentPurpose
pCloudYour access token, file identifiers, and the files themselves when downloading or uploadingReading your library, thumbnails, viewing, corrections
Apple (Photos / iCloud Photos)Nothing to us. Access happens locally through the system (PhotoKit)Reading and updating your library
Apple Maps (MapKit)The GPS coordinates of your photos, one by oneTurning them into place names ("Athens", "Zakynthos") for the map and search
Apple (iCloud key-value store)Preferences only: theme, icon, zoom, sync switchesSame settings across your devices. Can be turned off in Settings

We send no name, email or device identifier to any of them. Communication with the clouds uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).

A note on turning coordinates into place names. For the map to show "Athens" instead of numbers, the coordinates of your photos are sent to Apple. This reveals to Apple where your photos were taken, though not the photos themselves. Apple's Privacy Policy applies. If you would rather avoid it, do not open the "Places" tab.

7. Connecting your cloud accounts

Sign-in uses OAuth, the standard that lets an app get access without ever seeing your password. You give the password directly to the provider. We receive only an access token, kept in your device's Keychain, which you can revoke at any time:

The providers' policies apply: pCloud, Apple.

8. Family mode

If you enable it, the app writes two small files inside your own pCloud folder, so that anyone with access to the same folder can read them:

The second file contains location data. Anyone with access to the shared pCloud folder can read it. Enable this feature only with people you already trust with your photos. You can turn it off, or keep only part of it, in Settings → Family mode. The files live in your own pCloud account, not with us, and you can delete them whenever you want.

9. How long data is kept

By us, not at all, because we hold nothing. On your device, as long as you want. You can clear thumbnails and temporary files from Settings, disconnect a provider (which also removes its entries from the index), or uninstall the app, which deletes everything. Your photos in the cloud are not affected.

10. Support

If you write to us from Help → Contact, the message is pre-filled with technical details that help diagnosis: app version, iOS version, device model, which clouds are connected, number of photos in the index, free space and language. No file names, locations, photos or credentials are included. You see them before sending and can delete them. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to resolve the issue.

11. Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Because we hold none of your data, these rights are exercised directly on your device and in your cloud accounts. For anything else, write to us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (dpa.gr) or your local supervisory authority.

12. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. Since we collect no data at all, no such risk exists.

13. Changes

If something material changes, the date at the top will be updated and it will be mentioned in the release notes. This policy is always available inside the app, under Help.
